Here's a mix of spices you can create at home to boost your immunity courtesy of the "The Answer To Cancer Is Never Giving It a Chance To Start"...based on Ayurvedic principles:
Immunity Mix
6 parts turmeric
3 parts ground cumin
3 parts coriander
6 parts ground fennel
1 part powdered dry ginger
1 part ground pepper
1/4 part ground cinnamon
*I suggest you use all organic spices to make this mix and sprinkle it on your food 1-2 times a day. It will enhance the flavor of most cooked dishes, soups, and salads.

Ayurvedic Breakfast Recipe to Help Prevent Cancer
From the book "The Answer to Cancer Is Never Giving It A Chance To Start"
Here's the recipe in a nutshell:
Buy a red, sweet, organic apple. Peel and quarter it. Boil some water and simmer. Either stick a whole clove in each of the quarters or add a pinch of clove powder to the water and then add the apple pieces. Only stew the apple for about 4 minutes and then remove from the water. I like to add some cinnamon for maximum flavor and sometimes The LifeMax Signature Grain. Have your apple along with sipping some warm water. EAT THIS FOR BREAKFAST ONLY as this recipe is designed to start your digestive fire for the day.
The apple has a lot of pectin fiber along with antioxidants and in Ayurveda (East Indian medicine) having good agni or digestive fire is part of the road to health.
Eating the apple every morning is just a step towards total cancer prevention which comes about with having a mostly alkaline diet, not being overexposed to environmental toxins, getting enough exercise and rest, and living a happy life.

July 2008 Acupuncture Awareness Newsletter
Patients, Colleagues, and Friends,

Acupuncture For Preventative Healthcare
A little known fact about Acupuncture is that it was originally designed to be a form of preventative medicine. In ancient China, patients would visit their local Acupuncturist seasonally in order to stay in good health and transition into the changes of each season. Patients would pay their Acupuncturist during the times that they were healthy and stop paying the Acupuncturist when they were sick.
This is a big change in the way healthcare is managed today. Unfortunately today, Acupuncture is a tool of last resort that people flock to after they have exhausted all other methods of healthcare. Acupuncture is an ideal form of preventative medicine because it is very safe and it helps to stimulate your own body’s innate ability to heal itself and keep your immunity strong.

Bladder Frequency Problems
A simple Ayurvedic trick to tone your bladder muscles and decrease bladder frequency is to ingest black sesame seeds. Just take 1 teaspoon in the morning with or without food and 1 tsp. in the evening. They are tasteless...you can add them to soup, oatmeal, sprinkle over salads and other cooked dishes. If you're brave enough, you can even take the teaspoon straight with some water.

Sinus Health
If you suffer from sinusitis, allergies, etc..., here is what you can do support your sinuses safely and naturally. Eliminate all dairy and in some cases you may also have to eliminate wheat - these are both phlegm producing foods. Start taking Ester-C (at least 1000/mg a day and 3000 mg/day when ill) daily. Take probiotics daily (2-8/day depending on your current state) which will eat the bad bacteria/mucus. Also invest in a Nety pot, which is a little ceramic pot that yogis use with a saline solution (sea salt and warm water) to cleanse and irrigate their sinuses. The use of a Nety pot is most effective (especially as a preventative) when used 1x/day in the morning upon waking. These 4 steps completed daily will improve your sinus health dramatically!

Natural Gum Health by Oil Pulling
Want to help alleviate bleeding gums the natural way. Try oil pulling also called oil swishing. Just go buy some organic sunflower oil and swish 1 tsp. every day first thing in the morning (for 15-20) minutes. Do not swallow. After 15-20 minutes, spit out the oil (which should have changed to milky white) and rinse, brush, and floss your teeth. Clean the sink thorougly b/c the oil has pulled out plaque and toxins (including heavy metals from your body via your salivary glands). Oil swishing helps bleeding gums, regenerates receding gums, removes plaque and whitens your teeth...in addition to many other health benefits. To find out more on the additional health benefits of oil pulling, visit www.oilpulling.com.

Chlorella Over Mult-Vitamins
I find that Yaeyama Chlorella supplements are far superior to any pre-fabricated multi-vitamin, even the good-quality bioavailable multis. Chlorella is a green algae and it is also a whole food that naturally contains the vitamins and nutrients you seek in a multi-vitamin. In addition, chlorella helps to detoxify the body and boost the immune system as well as regulating your digestion.

Cold Sore Relief
Natural Relief from Cold Sores
Anyone who has had a cold sore knows how painful and hard to get rid of they can be. Cold sores are an outbreak of the herpes simplex virus in your body often triggered by stress. What you probably did not know is that a depletion of the amino acid Lysine can cause a cold sore outbreak and that eating too many nuts can deplete our Lysine stores.
Therefore adding Lysine topically or internally helps to accelerate a cold sore’s healing process. For cold sores on the inside of the mouth, you can take 3000-4000mg of Lysine a day internally to stimulate and accelerate the healing process. If you have a cold sore on the outside of your mouth (like on your outer lips or around the mouth) you should apply Lysine cream topically in addition to taking Lysine as a supplement. Lysine a.k.a. L-Lysine supplements and cream can be found at your local health food store.
Please email me at fiveeacupx@yahoo.com if you have any suggestions for future wellness tips and information that you would like to know about.
